Sunrise in Western Australia

It's not easy to try and photograph a sunrise when you are heading west, more or less, on a train. This was the best I could manage, pointing the camera in the direction from which we had come, through the train window.

The last day was a bit of a disappointment. No stops anywhere, just endless landscapes through the window. We were both tired after a second night being bumped around. The only bit of sleep that fitbit registered was when we were stationary somewhere near Kalgoorlie, during the night, for the drivers to change over.

When I woke up, we were still passing through "hostile" country, in the sense that it wasn't agricultural. I was so excited to see the first fields, I had to photograph them, and I've added a picture of rape seed crops to the extras. The fields are **big** in Western Australia.

It took us about 7 hours to do about 350 kms into Perth, and I must say I got a bit frustrated although it was moderately scenic. The Prospector only takes 7 hours to get to Kalgoorlie and we passed there at least 13 hours before we arrived in Perth. We were passed by the Prospector twice - one train going out to Kalgoorlie and one coming back. Probably not the same train. We were also passed by a very large number of freight trains, which take precedence on the railways in Australia. I appreciate that manoeuvring a 750m heavy train down the twisty track through the Avon Valley gorge might be a bit of a challenge, but did we have to go that slowly? I suspect we did, in order to arrive at precisely 3pm at East Perth.

Thereafter things took a turn for the worse, as we had Australia's worst taxi driver taking us to the hotel, but then a turn for the better when we discovered what a lovely view of the river we have from hotel. We wandered along the shore in the evening light for a quick early dinner at the Windsor Hotel, having skipped lunch on the train because we were overfull.

And slept. Oh yes, we slept!

All caught up now, after a period of low to zero connectivity on the Indian Pacific.

The location is a bit approximate.
