For the Record,
This day came in cold and shimmering. Icy frost decorating shadows and leaves. The yard looks wonderful, returned to a leafless state through yesterday's back breaking labor. We raced to rake out the flower beds as my brother made passes with the lawn tractor, the ancient leaf collector attached behind. We call it Snoopy's Doghouse, a receptacle for millions of collected leaves. He then drives the full rig up into the woods unloading huge piles. This is the last weekend working with leaves, next it will be snow I suspect.

It was a long day leaving us spent and sore, but still with time to drive to the local turkey farm , in business since the late '40's. Farm raised turkeys that have fed many South Shore families and friends. A couple of years ago we tried a roasted, stuffed and flash frozen bird rather than buying a fresh one and doing it ourselves. We have close to twenty and it took away some worry. It was delicious, so we will do the same this year, a 25 and 3/4 pounder. It thaws in the refrigerator and needs reheating for 4 hours on Thanksgiving Day. Here's last year's boxed gobbler, nearly the same as yesterday's version.

SO, said bird arrived home boxed and wrapped in foil just for Chef Raspberry as the sequence on flickr attests. We also brought home sliced turkey sandwiches, white meat, stuffing(or dressing, seasoned bread and onions roasted with turkey stock in or outside the bird), cranberry sauce and a bit of mayo. A real Cape Cod sandwich. Needless to say, both cats got turkey tidbits. It will be a week of fighting with the Berry as she is greeted with tempting, thawing jeweled scents each time the refrigerator door opens.
