A new year

Tonight is the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and we gathered at Endless Weekend's house to celebrate the new year and Doug's birthday, which is tomorrow.  We had a wonderful meal - brisket, matzo ball soup, and the best part, chocolate Swiss Roll.  

We have a new Great British Baking Show addict in the family, Manda, who has watched eight episodes of Season 1 in a week and was inspired to make the chocolate roll.  Being Manda, she did it to perfection.  Delicious!  I can't wait to see what she'll bake next.

We always have a holiday meal for Rosh Hashanah with wine and candles and blessings.  The Extra shows my great grandmother's menorah, which depicts the Lion of Judah; I've always thought it really beautiful.
