Weathervane
After a rubbish breakfast*, we headed out for a bit of a Wanderung. The weather was clear after yesterday's grey and miserable, so we headed up to the Schauinsland (roughly translated as "look into the land") to see what we could see and enjoy being out in the open.
We weren't the only ones who thought this would be a good idea as it was quite busy.
The landscape was fantastic - I finally got to see the Schwarzwald (the Black Forest) after previously doubting its existence. And it was superb. There were views off in the direction of Switzerland where we could just make out the outline of the Alps. Off in the west we couldn't see the Vosges mountains but we knew they were there.
It was a very pretty day to be out. I think we all enjoyed ourselves.
After we got back we headed off to R+A's for dinner, which was a rather splendid raclette thingy ("thingy" - you can see how much my German has improved). For this you get a little pan in which you put various chopped veg and meat which you cook on a hot plate, after a little while you lay a slice of cheese (raclette) on top and stick under the hot plate to grill. You eat this with some boiled potatoes (Pellkartoffeln).
You continue to do this until you can't move anymore. It was great.
*We're spoiled, we have our breakfast routine and we like to keep to it. There is nothing that mars the start to a day than not getting the drink of one's choice, in the quantity of one's choice. It's no use asking G if she'd like a thimble of coffee, she needs at least a litre.
