Elk in the snow

We woke to find snow on the ground, and it's continued most of the day; if there's one thing you can say about the Rockies, it's that the weather is fickle!

It didn't stop us going out though (with plenty of layers on!). As usual we all took loads of photos but I've chosen these three for today's blip.

The elk which we saw at Cascade Ponds was looking magnificent, hiding behind some blades of grass. You can see streaks of falling snow - and if you look closely you'll see that he even has snow on his antlers!

The first extra, which I've done in mono, shows the sort of weather we've had today. I rather liked the lonely little tree in the second extra; if you look up the hillside behind it you'll see that the forest there is beginning to regenerate after a previous fire.
