Holy Spirit

Yesterday while I was researching walks for our last day in Meteora, I came upon this blog post about a climb to the site of a 10th century monastery, the Holy Spirit. The monastery is gone now, but just below it is a tiny 14th century church cut into the rock. The climb, as you will see if you look at the blog post, was a bit of a scramble in places but I was fine with that until the very last bit. We had to  go up an iron ladder and then walk up the rock to the bell. I actually don't like exposed heights very much and I didn't move around a lot on the top...extras show the inside of the wee church and Sarah trying to make the climb look scary! (Have a look at the 4th extra to see where we actually got to from the ground).

You may have noticed that in every blip of Sarah in Meteora she is wearing the same dress. As well as being cool, dresses like this are good for visiting the monasteries as women aren't allowed in wearing trousers, even baggy ones. You can get a wraparound skirt to borrow at the door (also if youre a man wearing shorts) if you don't like wearing dresses, but we do like them so that's ok.

In the afternoon we did visit a monastery called Verlaam (see 3rd extra).

Must stop now as we have to be up around 4.30am to catch an early train....
