For Midlothian's Doors Open day we wandered down to Collegehill House, formerly the Roslin Inn, which predates the Original Roslin Inn by a hundred years or more – having been built in 1660 (six years before the Great Fire of London and the Great Plague of London).         

Many famous people: artists, poets and authors have stayed here, and there seems to have been a tradition for carving their autographs on the windows with diamond tings. The window with Rabbie Burns' signature on it suffered an accident a handful of years ago – allegedly being broken and the pieces thrown in the bin. Nothing was ever proved, but a careful watch on Ebay was maintained for a while in case said piece of glass came up for sale.
