Milan - day 1

It was a very early start to get to Heathrow for our flight to Milan. As we took off the views over London were incredible - there was a temperature inversion which caused mist and low cloud so that the iconic buildings of the city were visible above the low clouds, similar to those images one sees of Dubai.

An easy flight to Milan and then a 30minute taxi ride to the hotel where some of our group had already arrived. We unpacked and then Gavin and I headed out to explore the city, which is when I took this photo of the cathedral. We had lunch at a restaurant which was pretty awful - bad choice as the food was not good, rubbery calamari and a limp salad. Then back to the hotel to meet the others  at 2pm for the start of our walking tour of the city.

Our guide was very informative and interesting. We started off by visiting the Museum of Bugatti Valsecchi, which was a private house built by the family and then renovated by the two brothers Fausto and Giuseppe in the renaissance style in the late 1800's. The family lived there until 1975 and today it is a very interesting museum with beautifully decorated rooms and art works.

We then wandered along the streets of Milan with our guide showing us other interesting houses built in art nouveau style. We are staying in the fashion district and the many boutiques and fashion houses are very appealing with beautifully styled display windows.

We are about to go for a wine tasting before going out for supper, so I have just had time to upload my blip before rushing off again.
