Rudbeckia

These rudbeckias struggled with the drought this year. Even in an average summer our garden is too dry for them to really shine. Even so, they've managed to look good, although the plants and the flowers are quite a bit smaller than they would normally be. As they go over, they take on a range of lovely orangey/russet shades that complement the other autumn tones in the garden.

I managed a bit of house maintenance this morning, and then cut the grass which is finally beginning to recover from the dry weather. Still struggling to make headway with Romola - the detailed descriptions of medieval Florentine life seem to interrupt the progress of the human drama, and almost 200 pages in I still haven't really been gripped by the narrative.
