Mono Monday: Play

This is a shot of Jaques' Counties of England geographical card game which was originally produced in the 1920s and 30's.  It used to belong to my grandad who would have bought the game new.  It  was considered to have outstanding instructive and educational values back in the day.  The idea of the game is similar to Happy Families, i.e. to win by completing the highest number of sets, as shown by the Key Cards.

There were several series.  The first series was the Northern Counties, the second series the Midland Counties, the third series Eastern Counties and the fourth series Southern Counties.  As you can see from the shot, this is the third series. Time has moved on a lot in the last 90 to 100 years.  At the time the game was published, Chelmsford was an agricultural town with a population of 26,540 - nowadays it is in the region of 168,310.
