TranScripts

We ended Liverpool Mental Health Festival 2018 on a high note at the Museum of Liverpool this afternoon with a showcase for the writers who took part in our ‘TranScripts’ creative writing course over the summer.

The course was attended by 10 trans and non-binary writers, some of whom had been writing for years, some of whom were giving it a go for the first time; and all of whom produced jaw-dropping work which made us laugh, cry, gasp and rock back on our heels. It’s, honestly, one of the best things I’ve ever been involved in!

One of the promises we made to the writers when they signed up for the course was that their work would be published in an anthology (in partnership with Writing on the Wall), and today’s event, with readings by the writers, marked the publication of that book.

I was so enthralled by the readings today that I kept forgetting to take photos, but here’s one from when I remembered! It features the marvellous Mina (with the awesome Alex in the background).

Massive thanks to the appreciative crowd who came to cheer the writers on, to all the amazing TranScripts writers themselves and to the course leader/tutor/mentor, Marjorie Morgan, who was an inspiration to all!

Finally, thanks and appreciation to everyone who made the festival happen - not least Sarah and Nici who’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty this year. You two rock!

I’m utterly exhausted but relieved that my new hip has held up! I’m now off to lie down in a darkened room for a couple of days!
