Lotsstugan - The Pilots' Cottage

This was originally a small cottage where the pilots kept a lookout for approaching sailing ships. Once the ships were spotted a boat would go out from a nearby cove and deliver the pilot to the incoming ship and he would then steer the ship into Härnösand Harbour, about 10 km away.
Names and dates carved on stones in the cove are from the 1840's.
Since then the "cottage" has seen many additions and renovations. Nowadays Lotsstugan is a conference centre and in the summer a B&B.
We often walk here because the rocks, almost cliffs, are so spectacular and the views northward up the coast ( the extra shows the view behind me when I took this picture) and eastwards out over the open sea are always uplifting.
Because this is the eastern side of the island of Härnön if you want the sun you have to get here in the morning, or lunchtime at the latest. Today we made it!
