Carentan: stern and rudder of drakkar (Dreknor)

The building of this replica Viking ship was completed in 2008, and is a permanent resident in Carentan harbour.

The locals refer to Viking ships in general as a "DRAKKAR", and this ship in particular as "DREKNOR".  So far as I can establish these names for ships are pure inventions, unknown in any Nordic language.

The Dreknor is an excellent copy of the 9th century ship discovered at Gokstad, near Bergen in Norway.
