Moules

After a mundane morning doing ironing, and having a haircut, we had a much more interesting later part of the day.

We had booked a film at 7pm, so decided that we would make one of our rare shopping expeditions to Norwich.  We were primarily looking for new watch straps, but neither of us found one to suit at The Watch Hospital, and when we walked into H Samuel, we were totally ignored by the two members of staff, so we walked out again without looking at their choice.  Instead, we bought W a dressing gown and some T shirts, and I got a pair of shoes.

We had mentioned to several people we were going to find something to eat before the film, and had been recommended to try "The Belgian Monk".  This gastro pub has a choice of about 40 different Belgian beers, and specialises in Belgian food, including mussels in an huge variety of different sauces.  I chose "On the Ball City" - yellow peppers and green beans which locals will recognise as the Norwich City football colours.  W chose one called Mosselen Denemarken (Danish Mussels) with fish pieces and king prawns.  It was rather an expensive choice of meals, but very enjoyable.

My hairdresser had told me their Vegan Chocolate Brownie is the best she has ever had - but after this spread, we were totally unable to try it.  Maybe next time?

Then we went to a production of Alan Bennet's "Allelujah", presented by National Theatre Live.  What an interesting and thought provoking play, reflecting on the politics of the present day, and also on societal attitudes to the elderly.  And a good way of getting some of the atmosphere of live theatre without having to travel to London for the particular play you want to see.  We shall look out for future productions.
