Fido at rest

Today we have said a final farewell to Fido.  He was a very old dog - about 17 or 18 - and has been having increasing difficulty getting around, and we were already seriously considering having him put to sleep today.  Then he had a very bad night last night, with several accidents, that he found distressing.

So he slept most of the day on the rug in front of the woodburner, and late this afternoon, the vet came round and euthanised him.  We have buried him in the garden, and planted a Magnolia soulangeana over him.  As we were burying him, the sky was briefly a wonderful bright pink.

We will miss him a lot, but he has had a good, long life, and further delay would have been wrong.
