Dahlia Field Worker

Dahlia field workers dig up dahlia plants and cut off and prepare the tubers for sale....it is very hard back breaking work.  On a ride around the Snohomish Wa. dahlia fields today we say first hand just how hard and how much work goes into preparing the tubers for sales later.   I have a sneaky feeling that most of this work is done by "immigrants/farm workers" the same as the ones working the daffodil and tulip fields north of Seattle.   There appear to be some austere housing and primitive outhouses for them nearby.  A few canvas covered tent like areas for shelter .....farmworkers conditions remain meager and then continuing on we passed what appeared to be the farm owners home....beautiful ...huge...a lovely valley view and several nice cars and a big boat.  Not to begrudge these amenities to the owners....but we do need to upgrade conditions for the farmworkers here in our state .  Seeing the dahlia workers heightened , to me, why we need to stop the fear mongering toward immigrants---who often fill these roles.
