Kingsbridge at low tide

The tide was out in Kingsbridge when I emerged from the dentist. There was so little colour in this photo of the estuary (a ria) that I decided to make it mono. My Extra is of mallards and a gull bobbing and dipping in the mud.

For those who don't know, and as a reminder to myself, a ria - and the Kingsbridge example in particular - is described on Wikipedia thus:

"A ria is a coastal inlet formed by the partial submergence of an unglaciated river valley. It is a drowned river valley that remains open to the sea ... The Kingsbridge Estuary in Devon ... is an extreme example of a ria forming an estuary disproportionate to the size of its river; no significant river flows into it at all, only a number of small streams."

Had two fillings at the dentist, one of which was a repair to my broken tooth. The numbing is just beginning to wear off from what, I have to say, was the most painless injection I've ever had at the dentist. She's done a great job, even if I did leave nearly £200 lighter in the pocket. Time to start saving to have the back tooth capped in due course!
