Papaver Rhoeas - WW1 Rememberance

Backblip
These poppies are created using lamb's heart tissue, horsehair and vintage suture cotton.  The lamb was chosen by the artist Paddy Hartley because of its links to sacrifice and slaughter across many cultures and beliefs.
Each poppy is unique and it's colours and composition depend on the the staining and treatment of the tissue.
Each is presented as a pathological specimen inside a custom blown glass vessel inspired by the shape of a WW1 artillery shell.
Each poppy will change appearance through decay, fragmentation and eventual collapse to finally exist only in the memory of those who saw them first hand.

A most unusual and fascinating memorial to those whose lives were taken during this dreadful war.  Currently featured in an exhibition in Norwich museum about how the conflict affected Norfolk and it's people.
