A Day Worth Recording

Godfree

Spent a bit of time down in the cellar today - having found a small drippy leak (indeed two, in adjacent, unrelated pipes - is that lucky or unlucky?)

Thus a certain amount of clearing was needed and when clearing down here I occasionally come across this zinc label, kept carefully tucked away in the 'wine cellar' section (which is mostly full of decorating stuff before you get excited).

I'm rather intrigued by the 'god free'. After all, the house was the rectory until 1869 and the Rector, and then his widow, lived here until 1911.

Edit: A local friend/historian has sent me an advert for William Godfree & Co... Wine & Spirit Company.  In extras.
