Crazy About Birds

By Kimb

Here She is Again!

She was tiptoeing down to look at the bird feeders. Very wary of the blue jays, it seems. But she could smell peanuts, so she really wanted to check it out. She looks like the rutting season has been rather hard on her!

Again, a few extras. Another of Ms. Deer - as she was starting towards the feeders, plus a wet Carolina wren picking up leaves to look for food, and the youngest squirrel helping him/herself to the birds' sunflower seeds.

It was a rainy day. We tried to get out for a walk, but scuttled back home at about what was probably the 1/4 marker compared to our usual walk because it started raining again. We'd thought it was brightening up, but we were wrong. At the beginning of the walk, however, as we were walking up the path along the side of the hay field, a sub-adult bald eagle flew over and landed in a rather distant tree. It sat there for a while, and then took off and flew back the way it had come. When I first saw it, I thought it could be a vulture, but it was immediately apparently from the way it was flying, and the way it held its wings, that it was an eagle. The juveniles don't have the white head and tail, so it's a little trickier to realize what you're seeing immediately! I didn't get a photo worth a damn. But worth enough for me to be sure myself that it was an eagle, so there's that.
