Snowy celebrations...

Backblipped 16.12.18

After a very unsettled night for both of us (coughing, sneezing and generally feeling yuk) David got up, showered and dressed and headed downstairs to get Lola up and out for her morning walk.  I don't know how he managed it but he wanted to get her out before the snow that was forecast arrived.  I think the fresh air helped clear his head a little as he had a burst of energy in the afternoon and got quite a few things done.

I, on the other hand, knew that if I was going to make it out for David's pre-birthday dinner then I should lie low and get showered and dressed just before we were due to go out, which I did (we advised Ele and Kenny not to come as we didn't want to infect them with our germs.)

I also felt a bit better once I was spruced up and relieved that my taste buds were still working as the little local restaurant we were going to is amazing and the food is utterly delicious, so it would have been a shame if I hadn't been able to taste it.

Of course Sod's Law dictated that the snow that has been forecast for the morning / afternoon didn't actually appear till about an hour before we were due to go out, so when the taxi arrived to pick us up, the blizzard was at it's best / worse (depending on how you look at it :-))

Thankfully I managed to get from house to taxi to restaurant without doing the splits and was relieved to settle into the cosy restaurant and receive the usual warm welcome from the owner.

As ever the food was absolutely delicious.  Camembert and cranberry tart to start, followed by Breast of Barbary duck served pink with vanilla poached pear, french beans and dauphinoise - griottine cherry gravy and finished off with Raspberry and vanilla crème brulee with lemon shortbread. Heaven.

We should have quit while we were ahead at that point but we were having such a lovely time we opted for stay for coffee, but just as it was serves we both felt our energy drain from us and all we really wanted to do was go home and crawl into bed.  The thought of facing the snow again was not a pleasant one.

But we survived and the taxi got us safely home and within five minutes of coming in the door, we were both propped up in bed, sipping lemsips and fighting over a box of tissues.

Oh the romance.
