An Emmeline Moment

Emmeline Pankhurst (and her chair) were unveiled last Friday, the 100th anniversary of (some) women getting the vote in the UK. Brought up in Mosside and living in Salford later, she was a founder of the suffragette movement.

It would take another ten years for working class women and men to get the vote. Until 1928 we were a property owning democracy, when most people rented.

People like figurative sculpture, passing a lot later it was interesting seeing how many people were taking pics with their mobiles. There will be a lot of #Emmeline on instagram. Which has to count as a success.

And not being set up on a plinth, she is very accessible. How long before some bright spark adds a Santa hat ?
