Spot the seal

Today we were back in Akaroa NZ ( near Christchurch). The weather was cloudy with rain threatening so it wasn’t as nice a day as when we were here a couple of weeks ago. Bob and I took an organised tour on a wildlife cruise which was fantastic. We spotted dolphins, penguins ( in the water swimming and chattering to each other), seals and other birds. The seals were really well camouflaged so I was pleased to spot these. With an overcast sky, long distance and choppy seas made photography a bit challenging. My other photos are not as good as last week when it was nice and sunny so am glad we came here twice.

We walked up to the historic lighthouse and had a tour followed by lunch in the quaint village which has a French influence with streets named Rue which is sort of nice. They put in an ugly modern lighthouse and were going to destroy the historic original building which needed two permanent lighthouse keepers and ongoing maintenance. So someone purchased it for $1.00 and the townsfolk had working bees and moved the building into the town where it is open to visitors. The mechanics are fascinating, it works like a clock which rotates the light ( instead of hands on a clock). The people who made these structures hundreds of years ago were very skilled.
