Noche de Rabanos (Night of the Radishes)

Unique to Oaxaca, this event that is held every 23 Dec . is one of the highlights of cultural events. Special radishes are grown and people carve elaborate scenes and figures. Everything in the display must be natural materials - no plastic nor metal. We always go in the morning when the artists are setting up their displays because it is interesting to watch and also it avoids the thousands of people that are attending later. So all of the photos I have are of works in progress.
There are two other categories - scenes made of corn husks and those of flor inmortal which is what we know of as straw flowers. A couple of those are in the extras. It is an amazing event that shows off the creativity of the people.
This photo is a section of the winning entry.
