Socialising

I have cycled past Tantallon Castle near North Berwick many tines but never actually visited it. That omission was corrected today when the Glasgow family drove me down to East Linton for lunch and on to the castle which was built as the home for William Douglas in the 1300s.
It is the last truly great castle built in Scotland and was home to the ‘Red Douglases” otherwise known as the Earls of Angus. It sits on the edge of the sea near North Berwick and in its hey day had a surrounding wall to protect it from the weather.
Nowadays it is ruin of weathered red sandstone. When we left, the setting sun made it glow red and I was reminded of Ayres Rock in Australia.

Back home to the ice box that masquerades as the Dower House, I have to get ready to go out for a meal with school friends and that means peeling off layers of warm clothes to don a more appropriate form of clothing - a dress.
The discomfort will all be forgotten, though, when we get together and exchange news and views. And that house will be warm!
