New Year’s Eve treats

These are the traditional Dutch sweet treats for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. I’ve been baking these every year, wherever we lived. The balls are a kind of doughnut, filled with raisins and apple, they’re called ‘oliebollen’ = oily balls. The round shapes with a hole in the middle are apple beignets, slices of apple with cinnamon and sugar dipped in a dough and deep-fried. Tonight at midnight we’ll have a midnight supper with lots of seafood , crackers and cheese to accompany the bubbly as we see in the New Year. Wishing you all a great transition into the New Year and all the very best for 2019 !
