A white out

After yesterday's sunshine and blue skies, today has been a total white out. It started snowing in the early hours of the morning and it seems to have got worse as the day wore on, with a wind whipping the snow in all directions.

After breakfast we went to the supermarket to get a few things, and then I made a rather good spicy red lentil and chickpea soup for lunch. Not for the boys of course, they cooked their own enormous meals, soup would never satisfy their dietary requirements.

After lunch we wet off on a walk as planned. We usually walk down the hill from our apartment but were worried that it was too slippery - we had seen some people falling - so we drove to a car park and then set off up the valley on a clear path. We had only gone 10 minutes when we decided to go back, as the conditions were foul. The wind was blowing the snow into our faces, we could barely see in front of us, and we both agreed it was all rather unpleasant. We were warmly dressed but in those conditions we really needed ski goggles and a balaclava too which seemed ridiculous just for a walk. It is very pretty to see the snow but I think one can get tired of it and I would not like to live in this climate permanently.

I enjoyed watching the BBC's new version of Les Miserables last night - I see so many critics have given it a harsh review as there is no singing - well this version is not a musical (thank goodness as I don't really like musicals) and Victor Hugo never wrote it as a musical, he was trying to get a message across about social injustice.
