Rainy Day

It was so cold and wet this morning that we sat on the couch for hours reading the paper. You'd think, looking at the selection, that we lived in New York City. We do get a local paper, but since the NYTimes only comes on Sunday, we're lucky to get through it. The New Yorker magazine is a
yet another story....

Some people resolve to be nicer, or to learn a new language or to lose weight or work out at this time of year, but we resolved to try to use our Costco membership more.  Given that, this wet windy day seemed as good a time as any to see what we could find there. For the second week in a row we found a parking spot and the place seemed almost deserted, though it is big enough to harbor multitudes without being noticed. It's only when we all gather at the check-out stands that it seems crowded. We did come home with a three pack of reading glasses that wasn't ours, but we also had fresh broccoli, Brussels sprouts, some Costco lasagne, a year's supply of paper towels and ziplock bags, bags of kale and cabbage 'superfood salad' and a lifetime supply of fish oil capsules.

I'm happy to eat almost anything I can find around here for lunch, but OilMan,  only eats what leaps out of the fridge or the cupboard into his mouth, preferably a sandwich, so he got some prepared soup and bread. I'm a firm believer in the adage that I married him for better or worse but not for lunch....

Peering out the window we can barely see beyond the driveway, the hills shrouded in cloud and mist, the gusty winds blowing the rain into the screens, producing an interesting effect. The weather app on OilMan's phone didn't promise much improvement until tomorrow, so we struggled into our coats and boots and slogged down the driveway with Ozzie. Despite the fact that he was quickly drenched, he  seemed happy enough to carry on, but as soon as the wind began blowing the rain in our faces, we all turned around and headed for home.

Not wanting to go out there again, the rain on the bedroom window screen will have to do for today
