MARY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY WALK

Well not really, it's Flavia13 and Mr F on the Coffin Route from Ambleside.

Not a great day photography wise as the light wasn't great.  I wanted to do a walk anyway as I do need to get fitter and shift a lot of weight.

I remember someone on here saying about the Coffin Route so I looked it up and we decided to go for it. The Coffin Route as some of you on here will know is not macabre at all.  It was simply the route that had to be taken from Grasmere to Rydal for anyone who died before Grasmere  had a church and the A591 wasn't there.

Parking in Ambleside is EXORBITANT, mind you Lake District parking is overpriced anyway, especially in some places where you also have to pay 40p to spend a penny!!

Once parked, we had a trouble finding the entrance because Scandale Bridge doesn't have a name plaqueand typical for us roadworks were going on right where we needed to be and a truck was obscuring any signs!!

We eventually found it and commenced our walk.  It was a nice walk,  We stopped at the tea rooms at Rydal Hall and I had coffee and an almondy, which was delicious.  After that we went past Rydal Mount, Wordsworth's house and continued the walk.  This is one of the views you get of Rydal Water on the walk.  Some of the path is, for me, a little steep with lots of rocks but still very manageable.

We got to Grasmere, it only took us about 2 hours, including the stop and me do some clambering here and there taking photos, but hubby just likes to plough on, so no time for adjustments!!!!

We got to Grasmere in time for lunch and went to somewhere called Heidi's Lodge because my favourite place wasn't opened yet.  It was OK but not great.  Music a bit loud, but then I prefer cafés  and restaurants without music or if they have it very quiet.  My jacket potato had plastic tasteless cheese, but the potato was nice and cooked in an oven and the salad had a nice dressing.

Whilst having lunch it started to snow and heavily, so we caught the bus back to Ambleside and then came home.

All in all a nice day and at least I got some good exercise and lots of fresh air in stunning surroundings.

Hope you all had a nice day.
