Let the carnage begin!

This morning, as part of the Festa d'Oli activities, there was a demonstration of herding skills... which was nothing like One Man and His Dog. This man and woman had three dogs, one of which was particularly fond of biting the sheep, although they did bite back. Once the sheep had been dealt with the dogs moved onto geese and then ducks - all of whom had clipped wings so they couldn't escape and, yes, they got nipped at as well and there were literally a few feathers flying. Those poor ducks.... I mean, their little legs are just not meant to be running around so much and so quickly and one of their number was having difficulty managing to keep up with the rest. If it would have done any good I would have rung the RSPCA but, as Steve said, the culture is that of bull-fighting and the like, even though it's recently been banned in Catalunya.

We were going to stay and watch a very well-respected farrier friend shoe a neighbour's horse, but were so cold at this point, even though we were both well wrapped up, that we came home to get warm. I hope the shoeing was successful, although the horse looked very highly strung and feisty and had never been hot-shoed before, but at least the farrier wouldn't be biting the horse!
