Remembrance of things past

It’s my birthday today. Always a moment for reflection.

As every year, my birthday falls on Holocaust Memorial Day, which is reason enough to reflect on what has gone before and how much still needs to be done.

Humanity is capable of doing the very worst possible things to each other. Yet we also have it in us to do the right thing. To do amazing things. To love each other and the planet we share. I live in hope that we’ll learn to focus on the good stuff and stop hurting each other, and ourselves.

In that spirit, here’s the star of my t-shirt, Patti Smith, with ‘People Have The Power’ https://youtube.com/watch?v=UwRg6iD2Fh4

One particular memory I have of Patti Smith is seeing her play live in the grounds of Charleston House in East Sussex back in 2003 www.theguardian.com/theobserver/2003/jun/15/features.magazine37 a place with which she’s long felt a strong connection www.dailymotion.com/video/x303bil and which is only 25 miles away from where I was born, 53 years ago today.

So it was a particular treat to receive birthday wishes from Patti herself via Instagram! See Extra.

(Thanks to Sarah for the birthday beanie!)
