After the Match

Both kings declare their men have won
twenty games apiece –
and this before the year is four weeks old!
“It's strategy and wisdom.”
“It's thinking well ahead –
and training pawns to be a trifle bold.”

“It's the bishops,” say the bishops.
“It's the knights,” proclaims a knight.
“It's thanks to rooks,” the rooks say,
“keeping everything in sight.”

The pawns are playing quietly,
too young to bother strutting.
And the queens?
They're playing Crazy Golf,
practising their putting!

Can you believe there have been *40* previous chessmen adventures?! They began with this blip, which was the first of 14 in 2011. A further 11 adventures followed in 2012. In each of the subsequent years there have been only a handful (including only one last year!)
