Oak Owl

Oak Owl in Chopwell Woods

Chopwell Woods is always good for a walk around Xmas time. It is a lovely wood with a varied selection of deciduous and conifer trees. The conifers provide that lovely Xmas feeling with a strong pine scent pervading the wood. They hide various wood carvings/sculptures around the paths. This was one of them which is a lovely wooden owl on a Totem pole. There is a lovely view from this point, and you can then walk down to the river which gushes through on its way to the Tyne Valley.

At the top of the woods they were selling beautiful Xmas trees. Favourites are the blue firs but they are really expensive. There was also a van selling hot dogs and burgers - they get everywhere, but very timely !!

This picture seemed to be a lovely silhouette. It is also very near where there are lots of Red Kites, but these were circling up in the clear blue sky very high up today. We also saw a lovely deer - but it scarpered away before I could get a (camera) shot.

Home to 9/10ths of a roof :) We are racing against the forecasted icy spell.
