Tweedbank

Using our recently-acquired Senior Railcards we took the Border Railway down to Tweedbank, to have lunch at Hergés on the Loch, which has been recommended by a friend (several times, actually).

The restaurant has a fine view over the loch, its fountain and a mixed flock of wildfowl in the distance. It was clear that the surface was frozen, the swans ungainly, concentrating hard as they walked across (extra photo).

Lunch was excellent: with no time to walk by the loch we returned to Tweedbank for the train to Galashiels, a potter round the shops (may I recommend Dalgetty's Selkirk Bannock, we never leave without at least one) and a return train through the frosted countryside to Waverley.
