Snow on the Diablo Range

We took advantage of a sunny forecast to drive over the hill to San Jose for dim sum. The hills are still kissed with snow from Monday night's storm. This view is really a big deal, because we rarely get any snow at this elevation. Somewhere out there is Mt. Hamilton, home of the Lick Observatory. They say that on a clear day you can see Yosemite from those peaks.

Sadly, Joy Luck Palace, our go-to dim sum spot, has closed. There are a lot of other good restaurants in the same shopping center, so we certainly didn't go hungry, but we will miss the carts and the waitresses we have come to know over the years. We ended up at a place that features a lunch special of a plate of juicy dumplings with a cup of good thick soup; the place was packed and everyone was eating the same thing. For good reason: it was delicious.

And then, daring thing that I am, I had Salted Cheese Tea, a trendy drink that is exactly what it says: tea with a thick foamy whipped topping of cream cheese, cream and a pinch of rock salt. Trust me, it tastes way better than it sounds.

Stopped at the Chinese bakery for a couple things to take home for dessert. It would be easy to spend the day walking round and round this plaza, trying something different in every store.

Had a smattering of rain on the way home and were greeted with a rainbow over our farmers' market. Now the clouds are heavy and dramatic and it smells like another storm.
