Tiny Tuesday : : Snowdrops

Although they are called snowdrops and it is cold enough to snow here, they are still quite cheerful and springlike and I love the details.

Our painter has come by twice to pick up a kitchen drawer to match the paint. The first time we couldn't figure out how to get the drawer out. Our friend David, who installed the drawers came by and took a drawer out for us, but we weren't home so we still didn't know how to put them back.

He finally dropped by yesterday afternoon for a beer and a chat. We got to talking about how hard it is for contractors to get the subcontractors required to build a new house when there are 5,000 needing rebuilding all at once. The majority of the subcontractors are Hispanic. They are not rapists or murderers, they are hardworking guys who are desperately needed here. I wish there were a way to show how desperately needed they are....I was so busy thinking about that that we almost forgot to find out how to put in the drawer. Turns out that it's very simple, but not obvious....

Carol the painter was going to come back today to sand and paint the cabinets, but her transmission blew out on the way to our house and she's stuck without a car until it is fixed. The contents of the drawers will stay on the dining table until this job gets done, but we're not sure when that will be since another 'atmospheric river' (raging downpour) is due tonight and tomorrow and we will have no power from nine to two on Friday while the power company works on the overhead lines....

Today we had a visit from our neighbor Cindy who wound up taking us on a tour of the house that they are flipping across the street from us. They have torn out most of the interior, reconfigured the space and are now getting to the fun part which is painting and decorating. We ran into two other neighbors on the way back across the street. Everybody is excited about seeing an empty, neglected  house spruced up and occupied again..

Because we live at the top of the hill, we are sometimes fairly removed from whatever is going on down at street level. It was fun to see everybody and get a progress report on the project.
