Each to His Own Device

Or should that be 'their' own device? It was a brilliant morning...frigidly cold but not a cloud in the sky. We took some time to read the Sunday papers and some time to walk the dogs but then we decided to take some time for ourselves and got to Trail House for coffee. There was a big group of people at one of the group tables who seem to meet there after their Sunday morning cycle run, for they were there last week and were already ordering beers, the volume of their conversation rising as the level in their beer glasses fell.

We chose a seat at the other end of the other group table from this family, all three of them concentrating on their devices. The little boy with the faltering mohawk was dividing his time between his device and a shelf full of puzzles and games behind us. He was beginning to be less receptive to his parents' suggestions that he sit still a little longer so that they could work when they both ordered more coffee. I couldn't help wondering why they thought it would be easier to work in a noisy cafe with a kid with a faltering attention span than at home, but I didn't ask. Maybe they were on vacation....

Back at home the cupboard painting efforts took over much of the rest of the day because of the tendency of one thing to lead to another....reorganizing, vacuuming washing and decluttering everything, including the fridge, were inevitable. And none of the Marie Kondo looking at items and asking if they bring joy. I just bunged out all the half empty boxes of toothpicks, semi-melted birthday candles,  six or seven beer can openers, (they aren't even used on beer cans any more) numerous take out menus, and a pile of reminder cards for appointments that have already happened.

The doors and drawers are now sitting around the kitchen in various stages of being reinstalled.  One of the drawers fell out of the back of Carol's car and fell apart when it hit the ground. It is now in the process of being reglued. It will be interesting to see if it works in the runners when the glue dries...

There is one big and very heavy drawer left. I anticipate a number of bad words as we attempt to coax it back into its proper place. It's crucial because all the small appliances which are now on the dining table go into it.
