All Change

When I first heard about the “cashless society” year’s ago I thought it very far fetched.

But having got comfortable with using the “contactless” facility on my debit card, I am noticing how I have fewer and fewer coins in recent months. I hardly ever see a 1p or 2p coin now, and am sometimes paying with a (plastic) banknote just to get change.

I can now imagine a future in which coins and even banknotes disappear. Except for the elderly who cannot adapt, or the very poor who do not have access to a bank account.

Sometimes, change just creeps up and catches us unawares,
