The Lozarithm Lens

Melksham (Friday 22nd February 2019)

Perish the thought that I am in any way a creature of habit, but today I did a rather familiar run in the car from Calne to Melksham to Devizes to Calne, and unlike most car outings which are in the afternoon I set off in the morning as driving through Devizes later in the day can lead to big traffic delays.
As I drove over the town bridge I noticed a pair of swans on the Avon above the weir, close to the Boat House, but when I'd completed my Waitrose shop I walked up there and found only these mallards and a number of herring gulls (see Extra). Above them is the Millennium Riverside Walk footbridge that leads from the river path up towards Scotland Road.
There were also no swans to be seen in Devizes, either at Caen Hill or on the Crammer.
