Sgwarnog: In the Field

Painted

This early spring took an exceptional turn today when I encountered two Painted Ladies in the community garden. As a migrant species, in Yorkshire they typically make their first appearance of the year in March or April. I was aware that the odd individual had been viewed in the south or near the coast over the past month, but I wasn't expecting to find two together on my own patch.

Earlier, I'd found five Comma in some of their usual spots around Spring Wood and Tong Park and a fine toad on the path in Spring Wood (extras).

No Chiffchaffs yet though.
