Hoi Van and Hue

A long day, 12 hours. We started by going over the Hoi Van Pass, a very important strategic area.

Then a stop to see oysters and dodge the postcard sellers. Then on to Hue for (a lovely) lunch. It was a bizarre trip. There were some folk just going to Hue but of the 9 of us on the trip 8 were Korean. The guide spoke English but I'm not b sure many of the Koreans did.

Next to the tomb of the Emperor who died in the early part of the 20th century and then a pagoda beside the Perfume River. There was a Buddhist ceremony going on which made it more interesting.

Last was the citadel in Hue, the old capital of Vietnam. Of course I remember it for the terrible battle following the Tet offensive in 1968, it ended 51 years ago. Most of the citadel area was destroyed during that conflict but they are restoring and rebuilding.

Then a 3 hour drive back to Hoi An, through the tunnel. The bus dropped me at the end of the road, beside the restaurant so beer and lovely food.
