The Converse!

“the opposite:
In the US, you drive on the right-hand side of the road, but in the UK the converse applies.
However, the converse of this theory may also be true.” Cambridge Dictionary

You would expect roof tiles to be found on the roof, but when I looked out of the window this morning I saw the opposite! Conversely, they were on the ground!

For the last six weeks our neighbours have been having major building work done to their house, so I’m used to being woken at 7.30am by the builders’ noise (including at weekends!). However this morning it sounded like they were going to come crashing through the bedroom ceiling! Unbeknown to us, our neighbours were also having their entire roof retiled. The row that woke me was the roofer sliding the tiles off our shared roof and then dropping them down into the skip below. In fact he got so carried away that he ended up removing some of our roof tiles, grrr... We had to go round and ask him to retile the hole he’d left in our side of the roof! Unfortunately he’d run out of tiles so has now put a temporary cover over the gap until tomorrow. Fingers crossed that it works as after we pointed out the gap, the heavens opened, and more hail showers are forecast for tonight. Grrr...
