Rescue Equipment

Popped into Härnösand today on our way to visit Livia and Roger in Sundsvall. We parked in the quayside carpark, looking over the sea separating the island of Härnön from the mainland. The weather was startling good, as you can see, and 2 cm of new snow made everything very clean and sparkly.
The ladder etc seen in the picture is ice rescue equipment in case someone ends up in the water. The ladder is to lay across the ice towards them, spreading the weight of the rescuer who can then get closer, and a very long pole to reach out to the person in the water, and the lifebuoy.  I've never seen it used but it's good to know it's there.
Clear skies mean cold nights and as we drove home, shortly after midnight, it was -21°C. That's probably the coldest it has been so far this year and we appreciated the heated seats and heated steering wheel in the car!
