Pyengana

...back blip....We travelled across the top of Tasmania from Low Head to Pyengana which is a delightful little green valley where we camped in the sports ground. There is a dairy, cheese Factory and cafe in one spot which we had visited preciously with our kids in 2002. It had special memories for us and they all seemed to recall the trip even down to what they had eaten. It’s nice to know they have good memories too. There is also a “Pub in a Paddock” and walk to St Columbus Falls ( supposedly the tallest in Tas) which we visited this morning.

My blip is of a cow scratcher. The cow comes up to the rotating brush and manoeuvres itself to get a good old scratch. I thought is was so funny. The dairy is automated so when a cow comes up to a gate it’s number ( on a tag) is recorded. If the cow hasn’t been milked for over four hours it is allowed in and she goes up to a automatic feeder and the milking apparatus goes on with the use of laser. If she has been milked recently the gate opens the other way and she has to wait. The mechanism also records how many and how much milk the cow provides.

We stayed in a “Freedom camp” overnight which the locals look after. It was flat, clean and beautiful there. After our hot weather recently we suddenly had to look for warm clothing as the temp got down to 2.6° . It was Carols turn to cook and she provided Spaghetti Bol and salad followed by ice cream and stewed fruit ( which I did before we left home).
