North east Tasmania

We are camped in a paddock next to East Beach at Low Head ( see extra). We are fully self contained for a few days but will need to fill up with water and empty the dunny tomorrow for the next few days. There are about half a dozen caravans and motorhomes here and next door is a proper caravan park for those who want power and other facilities.

Today the four of us went to Low Head lighthouse for a little look and then onto the Pilot Station ( with oldest group of pilot buildings in Australia). This museum is run by volunteers and is very interesting including the lady at the desk who had plenty of local stories to tell us. After morning tea we ventured in to George Town ( third oldest town in Australia after Sydney and Hobart) where we spent a few hours at the Bass and Flinders Museum ( also run by volunteers). We all learnt a lot of Australian history we didn’t learn at school. The locals were all very interested when they found Flinders grave in London recently. There were replicas of the Tom Thumb ( tiny boat) and the Norfolk. Also very small for ocean voyages in my humble opinion. They were beautifully made in the authentic shipbuilding methods of the day so anyone who likes timber and boats and history would be in their element.

We returned to the same pub as yesterday as the menu was reasonably cheap and delicious.

Sorry if I am a bit slack with comments and thankyou as wifi is limited.
