Bilston Viaduct

I've been over the Bilston Viaduct quite a few times with Belles on Bikes over the years. This was probably the first time. It's usually on the way to Roslin, which has a decent cafe (Dolly's Tea Room). This is a good stopping point for lunch. Recently the Roslin Railway cycle path has been extended further north towards Edinburgh, and it now almost connects with some other new paths that have been put in through the recently created Little France Park. Anyway, you get a pretty spectacular view of the surrounding scenery from the Viaduct. Today's other scenic stopping point was Craigmillar Castle, where I took a group photo (see extra).

Overall, it was an excellent route (mainly offroad and on paths), although the wind coming from the south and the west was quite challenging at times, especially on the uphills. It took us quite a lot less time to get back from Roslin than it did to get there. I ended up cycling with A as far as Portobello, and then back along the Prom, rather than going back to the Commie Pool where we originally had our meet up. It was great to be back on the bike to do a proper route for the first time since July 2018. I think we went to Roslin then as well, but by a different route with the starting point having been the bandstand at the end of Porty Prom.
