If you can't beat them...

Kilmarnock Willow

Our last day up in Edinburgh with Katkatkat but there was no rush to get on the road.   So we had a run out to the Dobbies Garden Centre at Lasswade to get some things KKK needed.

While wandering round I spotted the catkins on a Kilmarnock Willow.  We used to have one so it was a reminder of how the 3 or 4 twigs would eventually make a mass 3 or 4 feet across.  For those who aren't familiar with Kilmarnock willow it is a creeping willow grafted on to an upright willow perhaps a Goat Willow.  The result is a stem which get no taller and branches which droop straight down to the ground.

After the garden centre visit we made our way to the Secret Herb Garden near Damhead.   After lunch back to the flat, load the car and head home.  Just north of Gretna the weather was terrible with radically reduced visibility and falling snow.  Still cars were careering past into the gloom.
