Day 073/19. Tunnels and Magazines.

This is deep inside Fort Nelson on Portsdown Hill overlooking Portsmouth..
This is in the tunnels within the defensive fort that was built to defend the important naval base in the 1860's.
Through the tunnel to the right are the main Magazine rooms where shells and explosives were kept in a very controlled environment to avoid accidents. To the left is the curved bypass tunnel where soldiers could pass the magazines without the need for special clothing and procedures.
The extra picture is inside one of the defensive abutments at the end of one of the tunnels.
Well worth a visit. Recommended.
