A Staghorn.....

A staghorn is a tropical plant.   This plant has either been set on an old oak or grown naturally .  It is fairly large, though not as large as many  that I have seen.    This tropical loves bananas and banana peels.  One just takes the fruit out to the plant and drop it down the open top.  Over a few days time, the plant will break down the fruit and utilize it.   You can also see where some of our frosts have done damage to the Staghorn.....    the leaves have been frozen and turned brown.  I can see new ones popping out as the weather gets warm.  I could guess the plant is growing well because the crown of the Oak provides protection from the cold and severe winds.    A very unique plant!
