Tour de France history

Went to Castilionnes (sp?) for a nice lunch today. Weather was on the up with warm sunshine and blue skies. Visited the local museum for a nosey and an English chap who was very knowledgeable seems to take part in running it.

The blip is of a shop front in town which celebrates a chap who used to be a barber in the town - he is credited with starting/ inventing the Tour de France (which seemed to be much more extensive and heavy going in the past. A new bike mechanism was invented for him which meant his bike had no chain and he peddled to make the back wheel go forwards! I think the tour took him 21 days initially and it took him all around the perimeter of France with only very few inland bits like Everuex (near Paris).

Everyone was a bit tired later on so it was pate and cheese for the evening meal!
